Oiled Wildlife Ticker

Keeping track of oiled wildlife
The Deepwater Horizon oil disaster continues to take a tragic toll on wildlife in the Gulf region. Wildlife rescue teams are making valiant efforts to save what impacted animals they can, but sadly the task appears much bigger than they – each day the numbers of animals impacted by oil climbs higher and higher. To keep the public aware of the extent of the damage, Defenders of Wildlife has created an “Oiled Wildlife Ticker” to track the numbers of animals that have been impacted by the spill.

Each day, the ticker is updated with the number of birds, sea turtles and marine mammals that have been collected dead or alive, as reported on the the Deepwater Horizon Response site. As these amounts only reflect the animals collected by responders, actual numbers of wildlife impacted or killed by the spill unfortunately may be much higher.

Put the ticker on your site
We encourage our supporters to add the oiled wildlife ticker to their own websites and blogs so that as many people as possible can be kept up to date about this tragic consequence of the disaster. To do so, simply copy and paste the code under the image you want to use.
